www.birdsandblooms.com/gardening/gardening-basics/natural-way-kill-weeds "Want to get rid of weeds in your yard and garden for good? Follow a garden's expert advice for the best natural way to kill weeds. “Weeds have overtaken my mulched borders. I cleared them by hand and treated the area with vinegar, but they keep coming back. I’m looking for a natural way to kill weeds. What should I do?” writes Pat Northington of Austin, Texas...." My notes: I pull them by hand & focus on preventing. If nothing else, if they are not choking out flowers, I just let them go.

It is not easy to pull them all out by hand. You must be really good at it.

It is not easy to pull them all out by hand. You must be really good at it. It's easier when the soil is wet. Plus we have sandy soil here. If I keep up with them, the roots don't get overly deep so it's more manageable.

It's funny to me that most grass is actually native to Africa or Asia. Unfortunately, if you do not plant grass and mow your yard neatly, there can be consequences if you live in an urban area. I personally don't understand the fuss about it.

I personally don't understand the fuss about it. One of the many reasons I would never want to live outside the country. We keep sections unmowed so the wildflowers can pop thru. You'd be surprised how many birds & insects utilize those flowers! Especially American Goldfinches who can be quite acrobatic hanging off flower heads!

www.birdsandblooms.com/gardening/gardening-basics/12-ways-win-war-weeds "Arm yourself with a favorite tool and use these fresh ideas to say goodbye to unwanted plants. With a new outlook and a little elbow grease, you can more efficiently weed out undesirable plants and even have fun doing it. Whether you transform the chore into a party or hit the garden instead of the gym, these tips and tricks pave the way for a weed-free backyard...." My notes: The other Birds & Blooms article above said it's hard to manage without chemicals yet they printed this one that is chemical free! My favorite is #1: "1. Change Your Mindset Pulling weeds is a stress reliever and workout, because the movements stretch and strengthen muscles. Plus, you burn as many as 200 calories in 30 minutes. When you’re finished, your blood pressure is lower and your mood improved." I can attest to that lol I actually like pulling weeds. When I'm depressed, stressed about something, pulling weeds helps divert my attention. My mind tends to wander so I feel better & think of solutions to my problem.

I saw a lot of pictures of moss lawns and I really would enjoy something like that but the thing is, they are hard to create without kinda damaging my whole garden. But still thinking about how I can make it happen . My dad currently has a lawn of grass, but it doesn't work due to our dog who likes to just sleep in it and leaves spots of nothing in it xD

Keeping lawns weed-free is never-ending. And, we don't have yard guys come in and spray it, either...who needs those nasty chemicals? Mowing will keep them down, temporarily, of course. And, most 'weeds' are actually very pretty wildflowers, so I don't really mind them

I get that mowing the lawn isn't the best practice, but for me, it is a good source of exercise and for many others something to do and care for as well as to show something off. I know both my grandpa's were nuts about their lawns, making sure it was mowed right and taken care of plus watered weekly.
Though in the drought areas out west, I know there is a total ban on all lawn care right now due to lack of water.
